6 Reasons to Serve in the Church Nursery

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

Why You Should Consider Serving in the Church Nursery

If you’ve ever considered serving in the church nursery, I highly encourage you to do so. As someone who actively serves in the Starnes Cove nursery, I can tell you it’s one of the most rewarding positions you could serve in within the church.

If you’ve thought about serving in the church nursery before, but haven’t made the commitment yet, I’d love to share with you 6 reasons why you should consider serving in the church nursery.

By serving in the nursery, you allow parents the opportunity to focus on worship, rather than worrying about their children

By serving in the church nursery, you’re loving and taking care of peoples’ children, so they are able to be in the service, listening to the sermon, and worshipping the Lord, rather than worrying about their children, and making sure they’re taken care of. In a very real sense, by serving in the church nursery, you are helping make it possible for the pastor to fulfill his ministry.

You’re helping form visitors’ first impression of the church

The church nursery is the first contact young families will have with your church. Your friendly greeting and exceptional care for their children can make a great first impression for your church. If they don’t feel like their children are safe and cared for, they likely won’t return— and rightly so.

You’re helping shape the lives of the smallest members of the church

The first (and sometimes even lasting) feelings a child will have toward a church are formed in the nursery. While not everyone agrees, we believe a positive experience in the church nursery is essential to helping shape the way little ones learn and know Christ.

You are serving the Lord and doing His will

When you’re in the nursery, you are being entrusted with the most important (and vulnerable) members of the church family. There is no greater treasure on this side of heaven than the little ones God has given us. Being trusted with such an important position is such a blessing, not only to those serving in the nursery, but the kids and their parents as well.

Your service impacts your spiritual growth

Multiple times throughout Scripture we are called to serve others, and serve the church. By serving in the church nursery, you’re not only growing the lives of the little ones you’re caring for, but you yourself can grow in your faith, and be impacted by what you’re doing.

Your service is a powerful opportunity for prayer

You might not realize it, but your service in the church nursery is a powerful opportunity for prayer. If every nursery volunteer would just spend several minutes praying over the children in their care, could you imagine how God might being to change this coming generation? There is no better way to serve and create a Christ centered environment than to pray while you’re serving in the nursery!

We are currently in need of nursery volunteers!

If you would be interested in serving on Sundays in our nursery, we would love to have you with us, teaching the children. If you’d like to talk to someone about serving, please contact Laura Smathers, or call the church office at (828) 667-1193.
